sorry it's late... again.

Episode 5: Iconic Statement

so this week, the designers were to modernize the look of a famous fashion icon. of course, things are never that simple. since it IS Project Runway, there had to be a catch. and because it's season three, it was a lame catch: the models got to pick the icons for their designers. rather, the models got to have a dogpile and grapple for the icons... anyway, after ravaging each other in order to get the photos of the fashionistas, this is how things looked for each designer:

Alison got Farah Fawcett.
Angela got Audrey Hepburn.
Bradley got Cher (and complained, what the fuck).
Jeffrey got Madonna. (how do you modernize her? she's done it for herself!)
Kayne got Marilyn Monroe (and everyone else was of course secretly disappointed that they didn't).
Laura got Katherine Hepburn.
Michael got Pam Grier.
Robert got Jackie Onassis.
Uli got Diana Ross.
and Vincent got Twiggy.

this challenge is better than the last few. I guess they're progressively getting more interesting. so, here we go to the interesting part...

the skirt is cute and flowy, but there's nothing original or surprising about this. I am bored out of my mind and this feels a bit too girly for Farah Fawcett. I feel for Alison though, because Farah Fawcett was a bitch and a tomboy, so I wouldn't want to make an outfit for her either.

for some reason, the judges really liked this dress. aside from it absolute plain boringness, I can't stand her fucking little "rosettes". I would love to rip them off one by one and throw them at her. STOP USING THEM ON EVERY OUTFIT! jesus!

... HAHA. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. if you've all been paying attention, you MUST know how absolutely pleased I am. this was a FLAWLESS VICTOY/FATALITY combo against Bradley and I laughed the whole time. that is godawful fabric, but he fucked it up even worse than I thought was possible. I believe Michael Kors said something like, "you're doing Cher. you could've done anything, but you gave us this?" I couldn't believe Bradley COMPLAINED about getting Cher. she's amazing and will wear almost anything -- Michael was right on the fact that he could have done almost any outfit. so not only is Cher fabulous already, she'd be really easy to design for. WHAT A FOOL! I laughed long and hard. Bradley getting kicked off is like a victory for mankind. honestly, I was watching the show with a friend, and when they said it, we both jumped up and down and hugged and squealed happily. it was quite an amazing moment, I must say. I can't wait until this episode reruns. of course, now I will be aiming my hatred elsewhere -- quite possibly at Vincent, Angela, and Jeffrey. but anyway.... if you're sane, you're happy that this has happened. if you're not happy that Bradley's gone, well... everything happens for a reason. I must say, I am very, very, very disappointed that Kayne didn't win this. it's a fiasco, I tell you! KAYNE OWNED THIS CHALLENGE. this dress is superb, gorgeous, perfect, amazing, and I could very easily see it on Marilyn Monroe. DAMN YOU JUDGES. Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting YOU ARE NOT FAIR! (though I never quite liked Michael or Nina, anyways.)

BORING. not even with just a capital "B" -- with CAPS LOCKS PRESSED DOWN LIKE A MADWOMAN. I'm wondering if Laura is ever going to use color. I don't quite see her flamboyant style in this outfit as much as her past ones, which is disappointing. I see a hint of it, but it's not quite there. on the other hand, Laura gets kudos this episode for telling off Jeffrey, because he's an ass and never, ever proves that he has a right to say the things he does. "Jeffrey, if you're so great, what are you doing here?" YES, LAURA! YES! now THIS is satisfying television, folks. Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

bleh. it's much too pink and I liked it before he changed it. it looks nice now, of course, because Michael's stuff is always neat and clean and nice-looking, but I'm not really all that excited. I don't think he should have won. put this next to Kayne's dress and tell me this is better... I don't think so!

This would have actually been nice if he had a slightly different color for the skirt and lost the jacket. I really liked the top underneath, but you can't see it very well with that jacket. anyway, I don't think this is worse than Jeffrey's (which still isn't as bad as Bradley's), but yeah, it's pretty bland and the fabric is wrong, as the judges pointed out.

I am starting to see a pattern here (and not just the one of the fabric, biotches): Uli makes the same dress every time. well, except for the dog challenge. I am being bored to tears here by her designs, but JESUS THAT FABRIC IS EXCELLENT. I want me some of that because it is just FABULOUS.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting
wow. this just sucks. I'm not really sure what else to say about it. when I first saw it, I was shocked that it wasn't the worst thing on the runway, but I hate it the more I look at it. why is Vincent still here? and what kind of sane fashion icon would ever wear this? I think Vincent needs to leave just because he has no taste and no vision. I don't want to sound like a retarded preteen by saying he's not "with it", but he's really, really not -- to the point where he would fail in this business because of his blindness to trends. I hate when things are "trendy", but jesus, at least make your clothes look good, you know?

so, that's it for this week, I guess. sorry it's not much... I'm getting more bored by these people as the series goes on. seriously, everything I say is an exaggeration of how I feel (except for my Bradley rants). I'm excited because it's PROJECT RUNWAY, but on the other hand, I am unexcited by these designers. Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

again, if you're sad about Bradley, I am Hitler and I don't care. Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting GO AWAY, BRADLEY-LOVERS! I WILL BEAT YOU OFF WITH AN AK-47 IF I MUST.

seeya next week, my dears! Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Can I...?

...post my own thoughts about each of the designs? I dunno if it's allowed, but in any case you can always just delete the comment. Here goes nothing.

Allison: It's a beautiful nightie that could almost pass as evening wear, were it not for the sheerness of the fabric, but it was nothing Farrah. If it hadn't been for the fact that she got the one blond model nothing about this would've looked Farrah, since all she got right was the hair.

Angela: It was a nice simple dress, something Audrey would've worn, actually make that something Audrey did wear, as Angela made the same dress from the picture she had (even the same color, pattern, and cut) all she did was add her signatures floerhorns. Her word, not mine.

Bradley: "This is high fashion and I made a tinker toy" I agree Brad. The pants were alright, I didn't care for the hanging fabric they had, but the top was dreadful, it looked costume-y. Sorry Brad, I'll still love you, my squid with no ocean.

Jeffrey: I was surprised he wasn't in the bottom three. This outfit looks like a pinata exploded, and for a guy who makes a living designing for "rock stars" this was unimpressive and amateurish. All I like is the semi-corset, but all the fabric underneath it makes it look unfocused.

Kayne: His dress was beautiful, and as far as capturing the essence of the icon they were supposed to modernize, I think Kayne and Michael were the only ones that hit the nail on the head. My only problem with this garment, and the reason I'm assuming it didn't win, is the puckering at the thighs and the butt. It was a tad unflaterring, but besides that the outfit is very Miss Monroe.

Laura: Laura did Katherine Hepburn, but I don't see how she modernized her at all. The pants are gorgeous, as is the shirt, but it's not very innovative or modern. Though I do love Laura's designs they tend to lack a bit of glamour, which I find odd since she declares herself as "fashionably glamorous". Kudos to her for telling Jeffrey off.

Michael: I can find no fault with Michael's design. The color was hot, the hot pants were hot, the top was hot. Something Pam Grier would definitely wear, since it was very form-fitting and urban. It was about time he won, his design was flawless, and his happy dance just makes me love him more. Definitely top 3 contender.

Robert: Lose the jacket, lose the rope as a belt, and next time steam your outfit before it walks down the runway if you want to stick around.

Uli: I agree, Uli always makes the same dress, very much like Keith. Same pattern, same cut...the only thing that ever changes is the fabric. The dress has a great silhouette and the colors are very Miss Ross, but somehow it doesn't work for me. I'm reminded of Tim Gunn's words on PR2 for the final evening wear challenge, "Is it just a dress? What's special about it?"

Vincent: I like this dress, unlike the majority of people. I think if he had modified the sleeves it would've worked better, but he seems to enjoy making "kooky" sleeves. And I disagree with the judges, I loved the pockets and to me it seems very Twiggy. The pattern is beautiful, the pockets and belt look very psychedelic (I imagine Vincent channels some of Austin Powers mojo when he makes his designs, as they tend to look very '70s). I don't hate him. He can stick around if he tweaks some of his ideas, and modernizes them a bit.

Re: Can I...?

hm, I like hearing from you. it was a fun read. 8) I still don't like Vincent's dress and Kayne still totally should have won, but hearing from you was good.
